Today’s update builds on this work to make sure that product reviews in Search meet certain [new] criteria, according to an announcement made last week by Perry Liu, software engineer.

 Google wants that product reviews meet certain new criteria. These improvements are ensuring that reviews “come from people who have actually used the products, and show what the product is physically like or how it’s used”, explained Liu.

Among the new set of improvement about products reviews in Search we have identifying that reviews will:

  • Include unique information beyond what the manufacturer provides — like visuals, audio or links to other content detailing the reviewer’s experience
  • Include helpful in-depth details, like the benefits or drawbacks of a certain item, specifics on how a product performs or how the product differs from previous versions
  • Cover comparable products, or explain what sets a product apart from its competitors
  • Come from people who have actually used the products, and show what the product is physically like or how it’s used

This update is the last readjustment launched by google about product reviews. The previous ones had launched last April 2021. Those first updates were launched to help ensure reviews come from people who demonstrate expert knowledge and first-hand research about products.
