Whitehouse – April 08, 2021, President Biden unveils measures regarding gun violence which costs the Nation $280 billion a year. His “concrete action” consists of background checks to buy firearms parts, the red flag laws, and requirements for modified firearms.

“No amendment to the Constitution is absolute,” said President Biden at the Rose Garden, facing an audience comprised of mass shooting survivors, gun violence victims’ relatives, and officials all witnessing the president’s remark on gun violence prevention.

Despite President Biden’s statement regarding the amendment, he later explained that everything proposed today is consistent with the Second Amendment. And there’s a wide consensus behind the need to take action.

While earlier, he said that “From the very beginning, you couldn’t own any weapon you wanted to own,” but he also said nothing he does recommend in any way impinges on the Second Amendment.

And yet, Gov. Mike Dunleavy, R-Alaska, said that Biden’s actions “won’t save lives or stop criminals” and would only “disarm law-abiding citizens,” according to an article from Dailywire.com.

So, “taking action immediately is a significant step to curb the gun violence epidemic without going through Congress,” explained President Biden, who also claims, “Gun violence in this country is an epidemic” and “an international embarrassment.”

Consequently, the first action is against the so-called ghost guns. These are homemade firearms with no serial number. According to Brady Bill, an individual buys the parts without prior background checks and assembles the weapon at home.

According to Biden, with those concrete actions under the Gun Control Act, sellers now need to run a background check on buyers, and manufacturers must make the key parts with serial numbers.  Biden also explained that all modified firearms are subject to the National Firearms Act, which requires that a potential owner pay a $200 fee and submit their credential to the Justice Department when someone wants to purchase a silencer for a gun.

The last measure is the red flag laws. “These laws allow a police or family member to petition a court in their jurisdiction” and ask “to temporarily remove from the following people any firearm they may possess because they’re a danger,” Biden said.

But Kristi Noem (R), South Dakota Governor, claims, “Taking away guns with Red Flag laws is an infringement,” according to Dailywire.com.

President Biden pointed out that gun manufacturers received immunity from the U.S. Congress. He explained they are “the only industry in America that can’t be sued – or has exempt from being sued.”

For the president, these are the most significant tools that can prevent gun violence and save lives. “Now, we should also ban assault and high-capacity magazines in this country,” Biden said.
